Determine your Basal Metabolic Rate and you will find out how much energy you need and your body burns everyday when you lie in the couch.

Determine your weight loss goal. If you plan to lose belly fat, you cannot target that specific area. You need to remove your over-all body fat first.

As a guide, if you would like to burn 1 lb of fat in your body, you would need to lose about 3500 calories on your diet. Of course it would be dangerous to lose it in a day. Divide it by 7 and you will get 500.

Lessen your caloric intake by 500 calories per day or burn the extra 500 calories, by exercising. After 7 days, if done correctly, you would have lost 1 pound of weight.

Plan your diet

Your diet should comprise the following, but it is not limited to this. This is simply a sample balanced diet plan.

The balanced meal should include about 35% lean protein, choose vegetables as much as possible, like beans, tofu, seitan, and other dark leafy vegetables.

It should also include about 35% High Fiber carbs, about 25-40g fiber/day.

And last, your diet should also have healthy fats, include olive oil, omega-3, and flaxseed oil. Bear in mind that flaxseed cannot be cooked as it neutralizes the important components needed by your body.

Add fruits and veggies with a relatively small glycemic index.

When you cook your food, instead of frying with oil try steaming your foods. Steam vegetables and fish.
